Plymouth Road Runner

In 1968, Plymouth licensed the use of a popular Warner Brother's cartoon character and named the car Road Runner. The hot rod Plymouth featured graphics of the cartoon bird as well as dual-toned horn designed to the distinctive Road Runner's "meep-meep" voice.
This was not a car for the shrinking violet who wanted restrained, inconspicuous transporation. If an owner wanted to abandon any semblance of restraint, they could order a 426 Hemi. When equipped with a Hemi, the lightweight Road Runner became the fastest regular production stock car of the 1960s.
The standard engine in the 1968 Road Runner was a version of the 383-cubic-inch, B-block wedge V8 with freer-flowing heads. Upgrading to the powerful Hemi could put good use in a two-door hardtop, like the 1969 Road Runner, a car with a rigid enough chassis to twist the big engine's prodigious torque into the pavement. Plymouth Road Runner was the right car at the right time and its sales took everyone by surprise, including the competition.
For 1969, Road Runner received an engine option that was outrageous even by 1969 standards; the A12 Six-Pack. This was a version of the high-performance 440-cubic-inch engine with a trio of Holley two-barrel carburetors mounted atop its specially designed, Edelbrock-built, aluminum intake manifold. In stock form this engine cranked out 390 horsepower.
To cope with the added 15 horsepower, the engine received beefier valvetrain components. Equipped with a Six-Pack Mopar cartoon car the owner was provided with more easily accessible power than any other muscle car on the market, at least when properly tuned. As time went on it became a challenge to keep the three Holleys running in perfect unison, and they did not respond well to the meddling of ham-fisted would-be backyard mechanics.
